read me news – lots of places to read me plus somewhere to hear me

Northern Gravy is a wonderful online journal publishing in three areas: adult fiction, poetry and children’s. I’ve been delighted to have both adult fiction and poetry published in the journal (still trying to crack children’s) and, very excitingly, Valley Press is publishing paper anthologies of each of the categories, so my work will feature in two of them. There really is some fantastic work in these, so I can heartily recommend pre-ordering here.

Crossing The Tees is Teesside Libraries’ annual literature festival and short story competition, and I was thrilled to be Highly Commended in this year’s competition with a story that is very close to my heart. You can order the anthology of this year’s stories from Drake the Bookshop here.

The Dirigible Balloon continues to publish wonderful children’s poetry online and you can search it by person or by theme. There are a couple of new ones by me on the site.

Little Thoughts Press is a brilliant journal of children’s poetry and fiction based in the US, which I’ve been trying for for a while, and the forthcoming edition is all ekphrastic poetry – which sounds very technical but actually just means poetry responding to images. In this case we were asked to choose from a specific set of images, and my poem has been selected for inclusion, along with those of several children’s poetry friends. It turns out all of us responded to the same image. Head here to browse or order.

And finally – Hear Me News I’m really excited to be joining Michael Bartholomew-Briggs and Hannah Copley for the next in York Libraries’ series of online poetry readings, Finding the Words. It’s at 7 p.m. on Zoom on Thursday 15 May and it’s FREE! Book your place here:
